Da Sette Soldi is an Italian restaurant in Epsom, Auckland with a very loyal and regular clientele. After having a simple website for a year, an updated version of the website is launched.

The Challenge: The old website did not fully capture the ambiance of the restaurant, and the owners wanted to create a website that better reflected the mood of being in the restaurant, to better mirror the changes that were being made and to strengthen and communicate the new brand positioning. At the same time, the menu had been updated often and the owners found the process of updating through a third party to be a tedious and lengthy one. Because of irregularities and differences between the menus online and in the restaurant, on occasion they had to lower the prices of the meals for the customers who were confused with the price disparities.

The Solution: A beautifully presented website that captures the mood of the restaurant through photography. I spent a day in the restaurant capturing the ambiance of the whole location, including the kitchen and staff, the tables, and the food. Da Sette Soldi is a great little restaurant with a lot of history and an incredibly loyal clientele. It is a true landmark as it is one of the first Italian restaurants in the area, and it has grown from a small takeaway shop to an informal trattoria, to a more elegant location. I wanted to capture as much of that as possible in as few photos as permissible with the constraints of space and bandwidth in mind.

To solve the updating issue, the content sections of the website were linked to a very simple online content management system (CMS) that allows the quick and easy change of content by a non-technical user.

Karin Ruppeldt is a practicing registered clinical psychologist that has never before had a personal brand or a website. I helped Karin clarify her website goals and developed a new brand and website.

The Challenge: Karin had decided to create a website for her practice, to inform new and potential clients about the services that she provides and the location of the practice. Initially, she opted not to make a financial investment and wanted to develop the website herself. Luckily, I was able to meet with her and after discussing her options we decided that I would help her with the design and development of the website.

At this stage Karin had no logo or brand developed either, so there were not many clues for the design of the website. The specific requirements were to create a website that was elegant and low-key and one that is appropriate to the mental health sector, while at the same time clearly communicates the services that are offered by Karin, the location of the practice, and one that establishes Karin Ruppeldt as a trustworthy and reliable professional brand in the mental health sector.

The Solution: A brand was created to ensure all communication is consistent and professional. I worked with Karin to create a simple logo that communicated professionalism and trust. From then on we moved to developing the website. I decided on a simple one-page website that makes use of a modern web technology (AJAX – jQuery library) to take the user to a separate section of the same page in a smooth motion. This created an engaging interaction that is interesting and at the same time professional. The colours were also very low-key, which fitted the initial requirement of keeping the look and feel that is appropriate to the mental health sector.

The Result: Karin has reported a very positive feedback and many new quality leads from the website.

Warooy is a small trading service, assisting New Zealand exporters to enter the central and eastern European markets. I created a single page brochure website to help Warooy promote their services.

The Challenge: The client wanted to create a very simple one-page website outlining the business and the services that they provide. There was not much content, and the requirement was that photos of airplane cargo and Prague / Bratislava are incorporated in the design. Another important element was the high visibility of the contact details.

The Solution: I selected a very simple design that uses a rotation of images as was the requirement, and incorporated clearly visible contact details to help visitors enquire about the services offered.

Pleased to announce the launch of the new Golem Productions website this month. Golem Productions is a New Zealand based media production company that was experiencing rapid growth and wanted to reflect its maturity as a company through its website.

The Challenge: Golem Productions grew out of a small video production company that was established in the 1990s. During this time it accumulated a large amount of work that the client wanted to include as video samples or clips. At the same time we needed to reflect the image of a growing, mature company. In addition, the client required that I use orange colour as it represented the brand, and to attempt and incorporate purple, as the secondary brand colour.

The Solution: I made a decision to create an entirely custom-built interactive website using Flash that would seamlessly integrate all the videos and other content. This would provide for a more compelling and interesting solution, and one that reflects a serious media production house.

The Result: The client was very satisfied with the final result. He had also received a lot of positive feedback from his clients and partners, and believed the new design had established his company’s brand as a mature production house.
